Mirrors identical to the original: how to use the OEM code

The OEM code is the part number the manufacturer gives to the original mirror: if a FAR replacement’s product page lists the same code as your mirror, that replacement is made to take its place on the same mount. Before ordering, still check model, year and side in the product page’s compatibility table or with Search by Motorcycle.

In short

  • The OEM code identifies a bike’s original mirror, side by side.
  • On FAR product pages you find it as the reference OEM code and the compatible OEM codes.
  • The product page’s compatibility table lists make, model, engine size and years.
  • Search by Motorcycle, at the top of every page, shows only the products verified for your bike.
  • Sometimes the same model has different mirrors within the same series: always check thread and side.

What the OEM code is

OEM stands for Original Equipment Manufacturer. The OEM code is the number the manufacturer uses to identify a part in its catalogue, for example 88220-MKS-E00 for Honda, BBW-26280-00 for Yamaha, CM020410 for Piaggio. Each side has its own code: the left and right mirrors are two different parts.

A FAR replacement “identical to the original” has the same mount as the original mirror and fits in its place, with no modifications and no adapters.

Where to find your mirror’s code

  • In your bike’s parts catalogue, on the mirrors diagram: the dealer can look it up with the frame number.
  • On the invoice or packaging of an original mirror you have already bought.
  • If you cannot find the code, make, model and year are enough: use Search by Motorcycle.

How to compare it with FAR product pages

On every FAR replacement’s product page you will find the OEM code among the main features and in the technical specifications, together with side, thread and road approval. Below is the compatibility table with make, model, engine size and years. Some examples:

Search by Motorcycle and the “Before you buy” box

At the top of every page choose make, model and year: you will see only the products verified for your bike. On the product page, the “Before you buy” box confirms “Verified for your bike” or warns you if the product is not among the verified ones, with a link to the right ones. You can also start from your make, for example Honda, Yamaha or Piaggio.

When the code is not enough

  • Same model, different mirrors. On the Piaggio Liberty 150 MOC 2V 2009-2013 Piaggio fitted mirrors with a left-hand thread (FAR 8225) and with a standard thread (FAR 6027): check the thread or the code of yours.
  • New series. On the Honda X-ADV up to 2020 the thread with the original Honda adapter is M10x1.25 left-hand; the 7058 / 7059 replacements (standard M10x1.25) screw onto the handlebar support once the adapter is removed. From 2021 there are the 8215 / 8216. The same goes for the TMAX, which has different replacements for each series.
  • Special versions. On the TMAX 560 Tech Max the handlebar kits differ from those for the standard TMAX.
  • Superseded codes. Manufacturers sometimes replace a code with a new one for the same part: that is why a product page can list several codes.
  • Original adapters. On some Honda models the mirrors are fitted with specific adapters: for a universal mirror the M10 diameter alone is not enough. Read the guide to threads.

The right side

Right and left are always as seen by the rider sitting on the bike. On FAR product pages the side is given as the mounting position; pairs are listed as “Pair (Left + Right)”. In the replacements in the table above, Honda codes with 88210 are right and those with 88220 left, Yamaha codes with 26290 are right and those with 26280 left: it is a hint, not a rule. The side stated on the product page is what counts.

The replacements identical to the original shown in this guide are road-approved: you will see the green “ECE homologated” badge on the product page. To ride on public roads, mirrors must be approved (Italian Highway Code, art. 72).

If you cannot find your code

If your code does not appear on any product page or your bike is not in Search by Motorcycle, see Can’t find your bike?: you can ask our assistant, also with a photo of the original mirror’s mount. We will tell you which replacement fits. To learn about FAR, which has been designing and selling mirrors since 1969, from Zola Predosa (Bologna), read About us.

Frequently asked questions

What is a mirror’s OEM code?

It is the part number the bike manufacturer gives to the original mirror. Each side has its own code. If a FAR replacement lists the same code, it is made to replace that mirror on the same mount.

Where can I find the OEM code of my original mirror?

In your bike’s parts catalogue, which the dealer looks up with the frame number, or on the invoice or packaging of an original mirror. If you cannot find it, use Search by Motorcycle with make, model and year.

If the OEM code matches, will the mirror definitely fit?

It is the most reliable check, but also look at model, year and side in the compatibility table: some models have had different mirrors within the same series or change mount from one series to the next.

Are FAR replacements identical to the original road-approved?

Those with the green “ECE homologated” badge on the product page are, for example 8215, 8216, 8171, 7757 and 8225. Always check the badge before ordering.

Is the replacement sold singly or in pairs?

It depends on the product: on the product page the mounting position tells you whether it is the left, the right or a pair. To replace both mirrors, order both sides.

My bike is not in Search by Motorcycle: what should I do?

Ask our assistant with make, model and year, also with a photo of the original mirror’s mount, or write to us from the contact page: we will tell you which replacement fits.
